I’m so excited to bring you one of my favourite authors this week – A J Campbell. I first met Amanda when I started my own indie journey back in 2020, and I stand in absolute awe of Amanda’s ability to write best-seller after best-seller – that’s no mean feat as a UK indie author, trust me.
So, you know the drill – grab a cuppa, and your favourite biscuits, and let’s dive in!
Tell us when and where your journey as an author began.
In 2012, I read an online article about a seemingly unbelievable thing that happened to a young couple. I asked myself, how could that possibly have happened? Answering this question sowed the seed for my debut novel, which took me five years to write. I self-published it in 2020.
What would you consider to be your biggest achievement as a writer, so far?
Since publishing my fourth book The Phone Call in July this year, most days, I receive an email from a reader telling me how much they enjoyed Joey’s story. Knowing I am giving people some escapism fills me with joy. Since its launch, this book has held its bestseller tag, and I couldn’t be happier.
Also, achieving the Amazon bestseller tag in the USA for my debut novel. For a British indie debut author, I was so chuffed with this.
Who or what is your greatest inspiration?
It has to be Agatha Christie! I strive to emulate her ability to create such vivid characters, so prevalent in all her stories.
What’s next for you?
This weekend, I submitted my fifth book to my editor, which I hope to publish before the end of the year. Now it’s onto my sixth book, which I started while on holiday in Wales in the summer. When the kids returned to school in September, I had to put it aside to finish my current book, so I’m excited to get back to it.
Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring authors?
Never give up! It’s not easy – be prepared for the wild ride and long hours – but you’ll get there in the end.
Wise words indeed, thank you Amanda for sharing your insights with us.
